UPDATED in RED: 12/8/20111
The Registration is open for all sessions starting in January.
There are some general announcements below and I have them itemized by sport or subject. SOCCER/LACROSSE: Next year, I am considering changing our program from what we have now to using one field on Saturdays/Sundays for Lacrosse and one field on Saturday/Sundays for Soccer. On Saturdays, the games would start around 7:30am. On Sundays, they would start around 10:30am. In addition, I would be expanding the game minutes to make more playing time available to the players. If I do this, I would be increasing the fees so that my revenue per hour would be the same. I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this so if you have one or two (thoughts or opinions), send me an email: admin@woodlandsports.net
LACROSSE ONLY: We have LOWERED the Minimum deposit on Lacrosse and it is NOW $85.00 and will be showing in deposit amount owing. We lowered this in response to many requests from the individuals who organize the teams. It is now roughly equal to the fee for one of the 15 players on a team which usually the child of the person organizing the team. The danger to us is that someone will register a team and then be unable to actually organize the team. We are willing to run that risk this winter and see how things go.
LACROSSE: The 3/4, 5/6 & 7/8 leagues have all been changed from EIGHT 55 minute games (440 minutes of field time) to TEN 75 minute TIME SLOTS (750 minutes of field time). The first 8 TIME SLOTS start with a 30 minute practice and conclude with a 45 minute game. The last two time slots are 2 practices of 75 minutes on half a field. This format was well received as it allows the players to be coached and then play a game. As part of our desire to grow the sport, we feel that practice time becomes an important part of the process at the younger ages. This increase in time on the field from 440 minutes (8 x 55) to 750 minutes (10 x 75) necessitated an increase in the fees from $975 to $1295. We feel it will be worth it to you and we hope that you feel the same.
LACROSSE: The High School leagues have the same format as previous years. There didn't seem to be much interest in practice time. Our team cost has gone up for the first time since we opened our lacrosse program four years ago. We held off raising them as long as we could.
LACROSSE: When we started this 4 years ago, we decided to set aside the entire day of Sunday for lacrosse. In the past, lacrosse seemed to be taking a back seat to soccer and we wanted to change that. Our primary day of play has been and will always be Sunday. As the sport has grown, we have had to expand out to different days to handle the demand. This year, we will be playing lacrosse on every day of the week EXCEPT Saturday. The information section in your league contains the possible days of play.
YOUTH SOCCER: Not much has changed. The primary day of play will be Saturday (games will start at 7:00AM) although we have added alternate days of Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I encourage you to sign up early as we anticipate having to shut off registration early this year. There are only so many hours in the week.
HS Girls SOCCER: This will be a 9 game season and we anticipate filling up with the league capped at 28 teams so I would encourage you to sign up quickly. The cost is $975 which is roughly $108 per game. The other facilities are at $106 per game. As you know, they play with 6 players (5 and a GK) on a field about half the size of Woodland. We think it is worth it.
YOUTH SOCCER: The 3rd session of the winter will start the week of February 18th. The scheduling for this session will be a little scrambled due to the longer HS Girls session ending on March 4 and Lacrosse ending on March 11. The games will be played during the weekdays (February when available; March after Lacrosse is over) , Saturdays (March 11,18,25) and then Sundays (March 19, 26).
ADULT SOCCER: This still runs primarily on Friday nights. We have the ability to have Thursday night only teams as weel with the Friday teams understanding they may get a Thursday game mixed in.
ADULT SOCCER: We will continue to run leagues throughout the entire year of 2012. The cost for these leagues (May though October) will be substantially less than the winter leagues and well worth your consideration. I will be posting this information by Christmas.
FIELD RENTALS: There are still some odd times time available during the winter. If you are interested, send an email to admin@woodlandsports.net with as much information as you can give me (days you can use, times you need etc.) FYI: Saturdays from 6am - 7am and Sundays from 6am - 8 am are available; some nights from 10:30pm to midnight are available; some odd weekdays from 12:00 - 4;00pm are available, over Christmas vacation we have time available...outside of that, there isn't much.
GVSA GAMES: GVSA clubs should know that we are sanctioned fields for MSYSA. We can line the north field smaller for U8/9/10 and younger and the South field is correctly lined for U11/12. We charge $65 per game and you get the game time and the warmup time included.
OUTDOOR FIELDS: Some of you may know that we have been working on outdoor fields (grass) and we are pleased to announce that we got them leveled and seeded this fall. We have one large field (65 yds x 110yds) running north/south OR three small fields (two 40 yds x 80 yds and 1 20 yd x 60 yds) running east/west. We will be putting the finishing touches on them in the spring (some drain tile, underground sprinkling etc) and anticipate a nice long growing season next year. It may be available for light use by Fall 2012 but more likely the spring of 2013. We have lights approved for the fields but that is an expensive proposition.
